“I will do it tomorrow… I have many days left in my hand… let me enjoy my free time… please mom…”. This is a usual explanation that we hear from our kids during holidays. School holidays are probably the best leisure time when children enjoy doing the works of their interest. Waking up late in the morning and enjoying outdoor games for hours with friends are common characteristics of this leisure time called holiday. This time is important for many reasons.
For kids and teens, who are constantly facing rapid and often confusing changes in their emotional, social and physical worlds, the holiday time is of great importance. This is the time when they can share some affectionate moments with their loved ones. Parents often plan for a holiday trip or visit to their relative’s place during their kids’ holidays so that kids can also come closer with other members of the family. Strengthening the family bond has become an important factor in today’s world and school vacations play a vital role in this regard. This tradition makes kids feel that they are also important for the family as during this time children are assigned to different household activities. For instance, teens may be given the task of picking out the candy that will be given out on Halloween or helping their mothers make cookies for Christmas.
Holidays like Christmas, Durga Puja or Eid vacations are vital in making the young generation aware about the cultural values of a particular family. This is also the time when children can freely unleash their creative urges. So parents should take care of the thing that children should use this free time in creative works.
